There’s nothing much for the West Genesee boys swim team to do in 2009-10 — just defend the Section III Class A championship.
With the likes of Ben Seketa,Carson Elias and Tyler Agen around, the Wildcats’ task gets easier, and it roared through last Wednesday night’s opening meet at its home pool in Camillus, beating Cicero-North Syracuse 105-76.
As a starting point, WG’s 200 medley relay quartet of Pat O’Donnell, Matt Wolfanger, Jake Mullett and Brendon Marks won their race in a time of 1:52.92.
Later in the meet, O’Donnell would claim the 100 backstroke in a quick 55.10 seconds. Mullett prevailed in the 200 individual medley (2:19.62).
Elias emerged in the 100 butterfly, tearing to the line in 55.82 seconds, while Seketa took first place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.17 and Agen swam the 500 freestyle in 5:17.74.
Just as impressive on the diving board, Josh Byrne posted 252.60 points, this after Kevin Taylor won the 200 freestyle (2:08.65) and before Tyler Olson won the 100 freestyle in 52.86 seconds. Olson, Elias, Tyler Zapisek and Mike Clark combined to help the Wildcats win the 200 freestyle rely in 1:41.25.
WG stays at home next Wednesday for a key CNY Counties League meet against Fayetteville-Manlius.
