Jake LaBarre took the handoff, found a seam and raced into the end zone for a touchdown.
Repeat that image five times, and you get a general idea of how the Canastota football team dismantled Clinton on Saturday 35-7 en route to its fourth consecutive victory.
With that win, the Raiders secured sole possession of second place in the Class C South division, behind only Cazenovia, the last team to beat Canastota 55-20 back on Sept. 12.
Since that point, the Raiders have been consistent and quite effective, allowing just 45 points during its month-long win streak, 24 of them to Sauquoit Valley.
Canastota’s defense continued to shine, keeping Clinton winless by pitching a shutout until the fourth quarter, by which time the Raiders led 35-0 and the starters were on the bench. Zack Zupan twice came up with interceptions to help that cause.
But it was LaBarre’s show, starting early in the first quarter when he took off on a 61-yard touchdown run, setting the tone for a first half of complete Canastota domination.
Four times, the Raiders got the ball in the half and turned them into TD’s. Each of those times, LaBarre finished it off, scoring from 10 yards out late in the opening period, then finding the end zone two more times on runs of seven and six yards in the second quarter.
By the time LaBarre converted on a 16-yard TD run in the third quarter, he had piled up 166 yards on the ground, using just 18 carries to reach those numbers. For the season, LaBarre has 12 touchdowns.
