Liverpool girls tennis beats CNS

Going-head-to-head on Thursday afternoon, the Liverpool girls tennis team would beat its rivals from Cicero-North Syracuse in a 5-2 decision.

Unbeaten this season in CNY Counties League meets, Ashleigh Caruso and Sarah O’Hara stayed that way for the Warriors, getting past Becca Cain and Meghan Storie 6-1, 7-6 (7-2).

Overall, Liverpool went 3-1 in doubles, as Marissa Robbins and Kerry McSweeney survived a long first-set tie-breaker to beat Vannepha Luangaphay and Lindsay Priest 7-6 (13-11), 6-4. Lisa Sikora and Melissa Inch topped Katie O’Leary and Carie McKenzie 6-4, 6-4.

In three sets, Madeline Cass rallied in singles to beat Jessica Geary 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, with Lindsey Wallace topping Stephanie Fahrbach 7-5, 6-4.

CNS earned just two points, one of them in first singles, where Lauren Osada swept past Kristina Monakhova 6-3, 6-3. Alma Pushkar teamed with Kelsey Wilson in doubles for a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win over Chloe Lombardo and Humma Sheikh.

Prior to this, the Northstars shut out Rome Free Academy 7-0 last Monday afternoon. Fahrbach preserved the singles sweep, beating Alexis Bravo 7-5, 6-4, while Geary dominated Dona Occhipinti 6-0, 6-0, and Osada took a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Nicole Anken.

In doubles, it proved simpler. The teams of McKenzie-O’Leary, Priest-Luangaphay, Pushkar- Wilson and Storie-Cain won while dropping just five total games.

Liverpool took its turn on the court Tuesday, enjoyed the sunshine — and also enjoyed recording a 7-0 shutout of the Henninger Black Knights.

Monakhova rescued a singles point by rallying to beat Jocelyn Copes 2-6, 4-6, 6-4. Sikora started a bit slow, but still beat Eva Bouchard 6-4, 6-0, while Cass had a 6-0, 6-0 romp over Nickey Serelyca.

Caruso and O’Hara also had a 6-0, 6-0 doubles win over Tenia Taylor and Prisilla Kabba. The doubles teams of Lombardo-Sheikh, Robbins-McSweeney and Adrianna Kierwa-Melissa Inch lost just four combined games.
