Following some rest, each of the area’s high school golf conditions fought cold, wet and raw conditions as the regular season hit its homestretch.
Jamesville-DeWitt, with just one defeat this fall, routed Fulton 198-242 at LaFayette Country Club. Jake Merola shot 37 for nine holes, while teammates Erik Davis and Alex Fischer each posted totals of 39.
The Red Rams’ dominance continued Wednesday with a 196-263 rout of Mexico, also at LaFayette. Davis posted a 36 in brutal conditions, with Merola (38) and Fischer (39) remaining in top form.
All that ended, though, on Friday at the Links at Erie Village, where East Syracuse-Minoa’s Blue team braved terrible conditions to beat the Red Rams 201-207. Davis shot 37, but Travis Oot and Matt Placito each shot 39 to lead the Spartans as Mike Brownmiller added a 40.
Before that, ESM Blue handled Phoenix 199-219, improving to 8-5 on the season. Placito shot 36 at Phoenix Country Club, one behind the Firebirds’ Dan Dunnigan, while Ben Loder contributed a 38. ESM Orange shot 238 in that same match.
Gaining another win on Thursday, ESM Blue beat Mexico 201-265 at The Pines, where Brownmiller and Oot stepped up, both of them shooting 39, well ahead of any Tiger total, to set up the J-D upset.
CBA returned to the course on Wednesday, holding off ESM Orange team 244-259 at Pointe East. Joe Fleischmann shot a 42, with Connor Harrington and Matt Preston (43 each) right behind. Bryan Reader led the Spartans with a 47 as Josh Somers (48) also broke the 50 mark. ESM Orange also lost Friday to Tully 192-217 at Erie Village, despite Dan MacDougal and his low individual total of 36.
In Friday’s match at Pointe East, the Brothers handled Homer 209-216. Freddy Oakes shot a 39, matching Homer’s Jorge Martinez, while Dan Lambert posted a 40 and Derrenbacker shot 42 for nine holes.
