Once again, the Cazenovia boys soccer team found itself splitting a pair of OHSL Liberty division contests.
The week began on a rough note last Monday, when Marcellus came to the Fenner Street complex and beat the Lakers 4-0.
For a while, Cazenovia kept it close, only trailing 1-0 at the break and getting seven saves from Mason Powell. However, Marcellus drew clear behind a balanced attack where four different players — Jose Rodriguez-Doran, Keith White, Jon Schoonmaker and Luke McNaney — got the four goals.
Things improved on Friday, at Solvay, where the Lakers used a quick start to take charge and work its way to a 4-2 victory over the Bearcats.
Before Solvay could settle down, Cazenovia had raced out to a 3-0 halftime lead, enough so that when the Bearcats did get goals from Igor Kondrya and Ed Buczakowski in the second half, the Lakers could absorb it.
Mirroring what Marcellus did to them, Crozer Connor, Mark Kellish and Dan Wenzel each put in goals, with Connor adding an assist.
That win moved the Lakers’ mark to 2-5, as it visited defending Class C champion Fabius-Pompey on Tuesday and goes to Manlius-Pebble Hill Thursday before a Saturday home date with East Syracuse-Minoa.
