The Tipperary Hill Music Festival is a celebration of that neighborhood’s rich and diverse musical heritage. It is a free one day festival for all ages, a not for profit endeavor that benefits the community. An estimated 2,500 people attended last years event, soaking up the great weather in this beautiful city park, enjoying the local food and craft vendors and the unmistakable vibe created by great music played in a beautiful outdoor setting.
The goal is to one day provide music-related scholarships to neighborhood children. This year, Geddes Federal Savings and Loan has signed on as a main stage sponsor, the festival received a DeFrancisco Arts Grant through the Cultural Resources Council and the Tipperary Hill Neighborhood Association and Syracuse Parks and Recreation will be providing support.
2009 Line-up – The music will, of course pay homage to the Irish roots of the Tipperary Hill Neighborhood, but will also be diverse as the neighborhood is today, and will include 16 acts on four stages.
Acts include The Sim Redmond Band from Ithaca, John Cadley & The Lost Boys, Dusty Pascal, The Adam Fisher Group, Brian Frances, Frank & Burns, Independent Louis, Maka Rouge, Quigsy & The Bird, Smart Alec, The Causeway Giants, The Fabulous Ripcords, The Freeborn Men, The Mere Mortals, The TippHillbillies, The Tom Dooley Choraliers and The Z-Bones. Music continues at night into the neighborhood. And will include the Mike Estep Band (Coleman’s), Master Thieves (George O’Dea’s), and Soul Risin’ (Limp Lizard Lounge).
What else?
There will be local food and craft vendors, including music instruction and hand-made instrument sales. There will be a Time Warner Cable “Kids Korner” (Kid’s Tent) with children’s activities, including a “Learn How to Plant a Tree” activity for youngsters.
The big addition this year is the addition of a “New Talent Stage.” Neighborhood musicians are encouraged to bring their instrument and sign up to perform (sign-up’s start promptly at noon). Kids Talent Hour (Under 12 years) will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Young Adults Talent Hour (13 to 18 years) will be from 2 — 3 p.m., and Adults Talent Hour (19+) will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Field Stage.
Legacy Award — A “Tipperary Hill Music Festival Legacy Award” will be presented to Mayor Matt Driscoll for his support of local music and arts related events.
Additional Information — Those attending from the neighborhood are encouraged to bring a chair and walk over to Pass Arboretum.
