The village of Elbridge has proved persistence pays.
After three applications for grant money, the village was notified recently that it would receive a grant for $73,000 from the Environmental Protection Fund toward plans to create a village center and erect a band shell on the premises.
Mayor Hank Doerr noted that on the most recent application for the grant, the only change was that the village used the term “band shell,” instead of “gazebo,” as it had in the two previous applications.
The village center is planned for a plot of land on the corner of Route 5 and Meadow Road, next to Gorham Manor. The area would be reserved for municipal functions, including community band performances at the band shell. The village board also recently discussed moving the Veteran’s Memorial from its present location near village hall to the village center.
