With one great start, the Skaneateles softball team finally found the win column on Saturday afternoon, going to Hannibal and earning an 8-2 victory over the Warriors.
Right away, the Lakers got to Hannibal pitcher Karissa Flumara, putting up six runs in the top of the first inning. That was all pitcher Zoe Hilpl needed, as she gave up just four hits in a complete-game effort.
In all, Sknaeateles produced 19 hits, a season high. Emily Devins doubled, tripled and earned an RBI, while Jackie Leslie also drove in a run. Rachel Wise also doubled.
Going to defending Class B champion Westhill last Tuesday afternoon, the Lakers took a 7-1 loss to the Warriors.
Alyssa Stevens started on the mound, but exited after Westhill got five runs in the first two innings. Hilpl did a solid job in relief, but Skaneateles managed just one hit and a fifth-inning run off Warrior pitcher Emily Mangicaro.
Skaneateles put up more runs in last Thursday’s visit to Homer, but still took a 9-4 loss to the Trojans.
Hilpl went all seven innings on the mound, improving after Homer got two runs in each of the first four innings, though she never could solve Trojans slugger Courtney Rainbow, who had a home run, triple and three RBIS. Britton Weber and Emily Call drove in runs on behalf of the Lakers.
In a Friday rematch with Westhill, the Lakers fell to the Warriors 16-2. All the runs came early, including a nine-run fourth inning as Brittany Kaiser led Westhill with a home run, triple and four RBIs. Weber drove in both of the Lakers’ runs in the bottom of the fourth.
