Baldwinsville’s boys tennis team engaged with Liverpool in a spirited duel during last Saturday’s CNY Counties League National division tournament.
When all was settled, the Bees had 89 points, just behind the Warriors, who prevailed with 91 points. Cicero-North Syracuse (59 points) took third place.
Of the seven divisions, B’ville won three times, including first singles, where Matt Funicello rolled past CNS’s Kaleb Bowers in a 6-2, 6-1 sweep. In second singles, Ben Weiss won, handling Liverpool’s Brennan Kirsche 6-4, 6-4.
Over in first doubles, Tom Hamm and Daniel Kot rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win over the Liverpool tandem of Ryan DeAngelis and Anthony Mann. In a crucial fourth doubles final, Kevin Pregent and Zach Wolgemuth led early, but could not hold on in a 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 loss to Victor Beaumont and Chris Brais.
