The Refugee Benefit Banquet, to be held at Colgate University on Friday, April 10, will benefit the American Civic Association in Binghamton, thanks to the generosity of the Colgate community and the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees. Several of Colgate’s student organizations, including the Latin American Student Organization, the Korean American Student Association, the Center for Outreach, Volunteerism and Education, and Kappa Kappa Gamma, planned the banquet as a fundraiser for MVRCR, but the Utica-based refugee resettlement organization has chosen to donate part of the proceeds to ACA, following the shooting in Binghamton on April 3.
The banquet will begin at 6 p.m. in the Hall of Presidents in James C. Colgate Student Union building on the Colgate campus. The event will feature live performances by student dance groups, Korean and Spanish food, and a keynote address by Ellen Percy Kraly, William R. Kenan Jr., Professor of Geography and President of the MVRCR board of directors. The event is open to the public and tickets are available at the door for $6 each or two for $10. Donations will also be accepted at the door.
