A year has passed, and though many of the names change, the fate of the Skaneateles boys basketball team remains the same. Again, the Lakers are in the Section III Class B-1 semifinals. Again, to move forward, Skaneateles will likely have to reverse two regular-season outcomes and topple favored Westhill, who has the B-1 top seed. The Lakers (13-8) reached this point by dominating no. 5 seed South Jefferson in last Thursday’s quarterfinal round, nearly doubling the Spartans’ output in a 65-35 win. South Jefferson was short-handed in its lineup, but Skaneateles displayed little sympathy. Instead, it raced out to an 18-10 first-quarter lead, then kept on going until it had a 29-17 lead at the break. To really put it away, the Lakers outscored the Spartans 21-5 in the third period, a strong effort on both ends assuring that this season would not end yet. Nick Pesarchick, with 15 points, led four Skaneateles players that scored in double figures. Brandon Barron had 12 points, while Tom Schoener gained 11 points and Kevin Rice earned 10 points. For South Jefferson, only Akeebu Lettsome (12 points) reached double figures.
