After a solid 9-11 regular-season mark, the Canastota boys basketball team earned the no. 8 seed for the Section III Class B-2 playoffs and got to stay at home for Tuesday night’s opening round. However, that did not translate into instant success, as the Raiders ran into no. 9 seed General Brown and took a 57-52 loss to the Lions. Through a close first half, both sides traded baskets in a well-paced affair, but Canastota edged out in front, 32-31, going into the break. Somewhere in that halftime, though, the Raiders went cold. It managed just five points in the third quarter, a slump that allowed General Brown to roar out in front, where it stayed despite the Raiders’ urgent pushes down the stretch. Nick Marji had 13 points, with Anton Motley adding 10 points. Ryan Merrell had eight points and Pat Micaroni got six points. Shea Cerio had five points. For the Lions, Rob Thomas led with 21 points, with Jared Flath (17 points) and Dallas Thomas (14 points) also having strong nights.
