Long before the high-profile visit from Jamesville-DeWitt on Friday, the Christian Brothers Academy girls basketball team had enjoyed a good week. The Brothers (16-2) went to Mexico Monday night and clinched the OHSL Freedom division regular-season title by pulling away from the Tigers 58-34. Much like their first meeting on Jan. 23, CBA’s defense would help decide matters. Mexico stayed close throughout the first half, only trailing by one, 24-23, at the break, mainly by keeping Kayla Stroman off the board. But for the rest of the night, Mexico found itself shut down, especially in a closing 18-3 push where CBA continued to apply pressure. No Tiger player scored in double figures. Meanwhile, Stroman took over on the offensive side, zooming by Tiger defenders on her way to 19 points, all in the second half. Leanne Ockenden had 14 points, while Michelle Damico had 10 points and Victoria Johnson earned nine points. Katie Webster got six points.
