Moving up the ladder a bit, the Chittenango wrestling team led from start to finish in Thursday night’s meet against Cicero-North Syracuse, earning a 40-21 victory over the Northstars from the Class AA ranks.
True, the Bears received a head start when Cole Farsaci (112 pounds) and Gunnar Brooks (119 pounds) claimed forfeits in the first two matches, but Chittenango still won more points on the mat than CNS did.
Joe Farmer, at 130 pounds, shut out Matt Dunham 10-0 to begin a three-match win streak. Wes Blanding fought hard at 135 pounds to beat James Segars 5-4, while Anthony Galli (140 pounds) worked his way past Jordan Ramos 3-0.
Another streak began at 152 pounds when Karl Chappell earned a 7-3 decision over Chad Izyk. In short order, Jacob Jayson (160 pounds) topped Anthony Kite 9-6, Ryan Schiedo (171 pounds) pinned Ariel Anocedo in 2:39 and Kyle Schiedo (189 pounds) gained his pin over Jack Hotaling in 3:17.
Chittenango nearly made it five in a row, but in two overtimes, Josh Wright fell to Austin Morris 5-4 in a 215-pound classic.
Now the Bears would rest and practice for next Saturday’s Section III Class A championship, which Chittenango will host starting at 10 a.m. Top finishers advance to the overall sectional Division I meet Feb. 22 at Utica Memorial Auditorium.
