In one of its longest matches of the season, the Chittenango girls volleyball team came within inches of victory Monday night against Jamesville-DeWitt, only to fall in five games. Early on, the Bears fell behind, the Red Rams winning the opener 26-24. Chittenango answered with an emphatic effort in the next two games, winning each of them by equal 25-18 margins to take a 2-1 lead. Moving on, Chittenango found itself with match points and chances to win both the fourth and fifth games. Each time, though, J-D kept itself alive, then finished in front, claiming the fourth game 27-25 and the decisive fifth game 26-24. Through it all, Kelsey Pudney gave the bears 15 assists and eight kills, plus three aces. Hailey Colarco helped on the back line with 12 assists. Rachel Antelmi and Jenna Barber each had nine kills, with Antelmi adding five blocks, as Brittney Tirabassi got six kills. For J-D, Ally Chaiken had 36 assists and nine kills. Chittenango’s boys team took a four-game loss Monday to Oneida. The Indians won each of the first two games by scores of 25-17 and 25-20, and even though the Bears pulled out a 25-23 decision in the third game, Oneida closed out the match 25-13 in the fourth game. Luke Grinner put together 18 assists, six kills and four blocks as Ben Miers earned six kills and Jordan Barber added five kills. Oneida had Mike Rabbit earn 19 kills, with David Watson adding 22 assists and 10 kills.
