Girls Warriors beat Rome Free Academy

Just at the right time, the Liverpool girls basketball team was reclaiming its winning form and starting to make foes worry.

The Warriors got a high-quality home victory last Thursday night, defending its home court while beating Rome Free Academy by a score of 48-44.

Though it trailed, 17-11, after one period, the Warriors didn’t get fazed. Instead, it took overon the defensive side, holding the Black Knights to just five points in the second quarter and seizing a 22-18 halftime lead.

All through the second half, the two sides traded baskets. Liverpool answered every RFA challenge and would keep itself in front.

Cara Scalisi set the pace for both sides, earning 16 points. No other Warrior player hit double figures, but Ally Zywicki did earn eight points, with Chrissy Scalisi and Nina Tassone each getting seven points. Nicole Ciricillo added six points. RFA’s Madalana Pegues led her side with 14 points, but Lyndsey Brognano got held to 10 points.

Weather permitting, Liverpool will play at Baldwinsville on Saturday night.
