Following up on its first CNY Counties League National division win of the season against Henninger, the Liverpool girls basketball team didn’t stop there, coming back home on Friday night to make it back-to-back victories, taking out Auburn 51-37. Through a low-scoring first half, neither side could make a sustained run. But Liverpool, ahead 18-17 at the break, got free in the third period by outscoring the Maroons 17-9, never letting Auburn answer. Nina Tassone took a big step forward as she poured in 14 points. Cara Scalisi had 10 points, with Ally Zywicki and Lyteshia Price both earning eight points and Chrissy Scalisi contributing seven points. In defeat, Auburn’s Kelly Grinnell led both sides with 18 points. This brief run boosted the Warriors’ record to 5-9, as it got set to host Rome Free Academy on Thursday night and play a Saturday game at Baldwinsville.
