Both of Jamesville-DeWitt’s indoor track and field teams made strong pushes during Thursday night’s Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Relays at Manley Field House.
In girls action, the Red Rams had 33 points, finishing in third place behind Liverpool (57 points) and Cicero-North Syracuse (41 points), while CBA worked its way to sixth place with 22 points and Fayetteville-Manlius (12 points) was ninth.
J-D’s big moment came in the 1,600 sprint medley relay, where Natalie Mannion, Amanda Tan, Linsay Royer and Eileen Cody combined to win that event in a dramatic duel with F-M, 4:29.25 to 4:29.35. Natalie Alibrandi, Meg Helmer, Molly Levy and Jessica Marini made up the Hornets’ tandem.
Tan and Grace Bradhsaw were second in the triple jump, going 63 feet 2 1/2 inches between them, with Bradshaw, Avery Share, Eileen Cody and Mika Huckins getting third place in the 4×800 relay in 10:48.42.
Marissa Colavecchio cleared 8 feet in the pole vault for third-place points and teamed with Marae Tearney for fourth (57 feet 2 1/4 inches) in the shot put.
As for CBA, it won the 4×200 relay as Melissa Zajdel, Julia Quigley, Edie Douglas and Taylor Gait raced across the line in 1:54.16, just ahead of Corcoran (1:55.01).
Also on the Brothers’ behalf, Betty Etheredge and Natalie Sportelli were second in the 55-meter hurdles (19.99 seconds) as Gait, Quigley, Ashley Lettney and Nadine Dosa finished fourth in the 4×400 relay. Marini and Hanna Krizman gave F-M a fourth-place finish in the triple jump.
Among the local boys teams at Manley, J-D also had the highest finish, taking fourth with 28 points, not far from where CNS and Baldwinsville (41 points each) tied for the top spot. F-M had 12 points to tie for ninth place.
David Salbert had the top individual triple jump of 44 feet 9 inches and took second place with Tim Kendrick as they went 82 feet 9 inches. Michael Paul and Brett Fallon were third in the shot put, going 78 feet 1 1/2 inches.
In the distance medley relay, Salbert, Bumkuth Jiak, Adam Tyson and Max Smith were second in a clocking of 3:45.82. Kendrick combined with Jiak, Smith and Jake Pusey for third place in the 4×800 relay in 8:30.39.
Most of F-M’s points came from Alex Hatz, Mark McGurrin, Brendan Farrell and Andrew Roache finishing second in the 4×1,600 relay (18:42.91) behind West Genesee, who won in 18:37.01. Hatz, Farrell, Roache and Jon Cico were fourth (8:31.60) in the 4×800.
