Though it was playing for the third time in four days, the Bishop Grimes girls basketball team did not show any signs of fatigue.
The Cobras struck again at home on Thursday night, pulling away from Cato-Meridian to beat the Blue Devils 49-27.
The 11 points the Cobras allowed in the first quarter was the most it had given up in that period all season — but Amelia Heiselman answered with 11 points of her own, including a trio of 3-pointers, as Grimes went to the lead again.
The defense recovered by limiting Cato to just eight total points in the next two periods as the lead grew to 39-19. Amanda Marcely used another double-double — 12 points, 13 rebounds — to set the pace, as Tenley Pitonzo picked up 11 points. Together, Marcely and Pitonzo had 17 of Grimes’ 24 points in the second half. Brooke Bonacci added six points.
Grimes (12-1) then got some much-needed rest before a Tuesday game with Fabius-Pompey and Saturday’s non-league home date with Henninger.
