Expected to fly through the transition from April to May, the West Genesee girls lacrosse team did so with lots of style.
Hosting Corcoran last Monday night, the Wildcats tore up the Cougars on the offensive front in the first half, and didn’t stop until it possessed a 23-8 victory.
Winning the draws and attacking through a steady, cold rain, WG had a 16-2 edge by halftime and got most of the roster some playing time before it was done.
Ariel Kramer led the charge, scoring six times and adding an assist, as Kiersten Tupper piled up six assists to go with her lone tally. Lauren Welch got four goals, while Maria DiFato picked up three goals and two assists.
Kellyn Savage, Karen Bianchi and Amanda Cizenski each scored twice, with Morgan Corso, Bre Hudgins and Maddi Farchione each had one goal. Stephanie Datellas and Emily Rozwood joined Bianchi and Cizenski in the assist column.
Going to Auburn just 24 hours later, the Wildcats inflicted much the same damage on the Maroons in the course of a 20-4 victory.
Here, the margin was 13-2 at halftime and Kiersten Tupper turned her attention to finishing off plays rather than setting them up, as she had five goals and three assists.
Welch nearly matched that output, with five goals and two assists, while Kramer emerged with three goals and two assists. Hudgins and Kalyn Tupper each found the net twice, with Cizenski earning a goal and three assists. Sarah Brown and Morgan Corso earned single goals, while DiFato and Bianchi got two assists apiece.
With these challenges shrugged off, the Wildcats rested before a tough Saturday trip west to face Section V power Brighton, a team that had already beaten Skaneateles and Fayetteville-Manlius this spring.
Sure enough, the Barons gave WG a serious test — but the two-year win streak reached 36 games as the Wildcats prevailed, 11-7.
Much of the offense was generated in the first half as WG raced to an 8-2 lead. Brighton responded well, cutting into that gap in the second half before the Wildcats used its strong possession game to pull through.
Tupper backed up her three goals with three assists, as Cizenski also found the net three times. Welch and Motondo chipped in with two goals apiece, as Bianchi got one goal and DiFato earned an assist.
WG is at home Tuesday night, taking on Liverpool, prior to a Friday trip to Rome Free Academy.
