With each game, and with each victory, the Liverpool girls basketball team gets more primed for a Section III Class AA championship run.
Any possible question of the Warriors’ intentions was answered in an emphatic way through the way it treated two local rivals in the last week of the regular season.
To start with, the Warriors ventured to Cicero-North Syracuse and spoiled the Northstars’ Senior Night, riding Colleen Maloney’s hot hand to a 69-40 romp.
With the game tight early in the second quarter, Maloney took over in a big way. In a span of less than four minutes, Maloney poured in 16 points, eventually finishing with 28 points, a career high.
For all that, though, CNS still was within single digits until the third quarter, when Liverpool really took control, outscoring the Northstars 31-11 the rest of the way.
Maloney was not alone, either, as Sharon Dennis plowed her way in for 16 points and Tyler Ash added 11 points.
Defensively, Liverpool did a remarkable job on CNS’ top scorer, Marybeth Egan, holding her to just two points. Corissa Quattrini led the Northstars with just 10 points.
From here, the Warriors come back home for Friday’s game against Baldwinsville.
