A mere 12 days after its lone defeat of the season, the Cicero-North Syracuse field hockey team can atone for it on the biggest stage possible.
For on Wednesday night, the Northstars will meet Rome Free Academy for the Section III Class A championship at Bragman Stadium.
Back on Oct. 19, CNS was 14-0 — but then it went to RFA Stadium and dropped a painful 1-0 overtime decision to the Black Knights.
Given lots of time to regroup, the Northstars came home, watched as RFA ousted Liverpool (also in overtime) in the Class A semifinals, then finally got its own post-season journey underway.
As it turned out, CNS’s meeting with Baldwinsville in last Friday’s Class A semifinal was adventurous, but the Northstars still prevailed 4-2.
CNS had not allowed two goals in any game all season, but the Bees’ Jill Conicello managed to score and also assisted on Abigail Lamirande’s tally.
Of course, the Northstars were still too potent for the Bees to handle. Stephanie Sylvia scored twice, while Lucia Meola and Katie Carrick also got goals. Only Brianna Earle’s 13 saves kept it from being more lopsided.
