In what proved to be a strong May debut, the Baldwinsville softball team used a stirring comeback in the sixth inning to power past Rome Free Academy 3-2 on Friday afternoon.
For five innings, the Bees could not do much on the offensive side. Black Knights pitching ace Amelia Casalenuovo (who beat Cicero-North Syracuse earlier this year) allowed only one hit, and her team led, 2-0, thanks to runs in the first and fourth innings.
All that changed, though, in the bottom of the sixth. With one on, Carly Nicoletti smacked a two-run home run, and the Bees tacked on another run to move in front.
Now it was up to pitcher Cassie Williams to hold on to that one-run advantage — and she did, finishing off a complete-game effort where she gave up just five hits.
The Bees went to Fayetteville-Manlius on Monday and also has a game Saturday against Central Square — with possible make-ups of rained-out games in between.
