It was safe to assume that the Baldwinsville boys golf team was ready for action.
Nearly a full year had passed since the Bees saw the Section III Class AA team tournament at Radisson Greens go to a visiting side, Cicero-North Syracuse Blue, and that defeat still hurt.
During this abbreviated 2020 campaign, B’ville had every intention of reasserting its place at the top, and opened with an impressive effort against West Genesee Blue on Sept. 25 at Westvale, prevailing 179-210.
Amid hot, dry and windy conditions, the Bees posted the eight lowest individual scores, led by Aidan Farmer, who worked his way to a 34.
Nate McGregor, with a 35, was one shot back, with Alex Pompo’s 36 two shots back of Farmer. Victor Ianno Jr. and Billy Guild both shot 37 as Evan Trasher had a 38. Austin McClintic and Trey Ordway both finished at 39.
When B’ville returned home to Timber Banks for Wednesday’s match against Liverpool, it honored the team’s four seniors – Guild, Ianno, Pompo and Jack Prossner.
Then the Bees went out and handled the Warriors 188-217, with Guild shooting a two-under-par 34 as Ianno and Pompo had matching totals of 38 and Prossner shot a 41, tied with Liverpool’s Dante Cassella and Joe Sacco.
Farmer in second place thanks to his 37, with Trey Ordway earning a 42. Hunter Evans shot a 44, two better than the 46 from Tom Hastings.
To improve to 3-0 Thursday at Timber Banks, B’ville required another fine team effort to get away from Cicero-North Syracuse’s Green team 202-223.
Pompo earned a 37, one over par, with Ianno getting a 38 to finish second. Christian Petragnani and Dylan Wertheim’s 42 matched that of Farmer as Guild contributed a 43 William Shipman a 46.
Only one match takes place next week, B’ville facing C-NS Blue, the defending sectional Class AA champions on Wednesday at Lakeshore Country Club.
