Pushed in some spots, the Liverpool boys tennis team still managed to get back on a winning track last Tuesday afternoon as it defeated Syracuse East 6-1.
Having lost to rival Cicero-North Syracuse at the end of April, the Warriors had to work hard in singles play. Alexsandar Dzodic needed a long third set to hold off Robert Collier 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, with Kenneth Kraft falling to Muhialdain Muhialdain 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 before Mike Fensken beat Nick Lozaponi 6-1, 7-5.
Over in doubles, Liverpool swept all four matches. Evan Maestri and Evan Vogue, who normally work in singles, paired up to beat Samir Subba and Rich Llanos 6-2, 6-0, with Adam Donle and Matt Renk shutting out Friendly Say and Eh Moo Soe 6-0, 6-0.
Though they fell behind early, the Munski brothers rallied for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 victory over Itanh Doong and John Hso, with Likhits Doddi and Jeff Meyer working hard to get past Matt O’Neil and Tang Moan Lian 6-1, 7-5.
While many matches were rained out on Wednesday, Liverpool did play against Auburn, and it proved exciting, with three different three-set matches, though the Warriors still pulled it out, beating the Maroons 4-3.
In order to avoid an Auburn singles sweep, Meyer had to beat William Clark 6-2, 6-4. Doddi, taking his turn in singles, dropped a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 thriller to Connor Davia as Dodzic ran into Maroons standout Scott Minnoe and lost, 6-0, 6-0.
Turning that around, Maestri and Vogue paired up to Dan Clark and Trevor Bohannon by those same 6-0, 6-0 scores. The Munski brothers got past Jake Wansor and Nate Wawro 6-4, 6-3, and while Donle and Fensken lost, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, to Jack Farrington and Luke Parker, Kraft and Renk earned the clinching singles point by rallying from an early deficit to get past Henry Foresman and Quinn Hukee 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
