On three consecutive nights, the Cazenovia girls volleyball team would play three matches, two of them at Buckley Gym – and win all of them, claiming nine of 10 sets along the way.
The gauntlet started with last Tuesday’s visit from Fulton. In four sets, the Lakers prevailed over the Red Raiders, dropping the opening set 25-23, but taking a close second set 25-23 and going on to win the next two sets by convincing 25-10 and 25-13 margins.
Cazenovia’s duo of Molly Carges and Jenna Britton proved too much for Fulton to handle. Carges put away 20 kills, the passes coming from Britton, who amassed 35 assists and 12 digs.
They didn’t work alone, though. Danielle Tedesco had six kills and three blocks, with Paige Nardella getting four kills and seven digs. Morgan Mapstone contributed three kills. Lauren Burbidge (12 digs), Katie Davis (10 digs), Morgan Hodinger and Sarah Dickinson (five digs apiece) helped on the defensive end. Donna Aiken led Fulton’s effort with 17 assists and 11 digs.
Then the Lakers traveled to Hannibal on Wednesday night, and no extra sets were required, Cazenovia putting away the Warriors with a 25-4, 25-13, 25-15 sweep.
Tedesco got six aces to go with her five kills, while Britton gained five aces along with her 14 assists. Carges also got five kills as Nardella and Hodinger both earned three aces, Hodinger adding four kills. Lauren Lyons contributed assists.
Finally, Cazenovia met Oswego Thursday night at Buckley Gym, but what seemed like the toughest of the three assignments did not turn out that way, the Lakers again needing just three sets to put away the Buccaneers 25-22, 25-16, 25-22.
Carges and Tedesco each got nine kills, with Carges adding five blocks and Tedesco five aces. Hodinger added three kills and six digsas Britton got 20 assists, three aces and three digs. Nardella earned nine digs and Jess Macheda six digs as Clara Culeton (14 kills) and Adeline Benjamin (10 kills) led Osewgo’s efforts.
Back on Sept. 3, Cazenovia went to Jordan-Elbridge and, improving to 2-0 on the season, recorded a 25-9, 25-16, 28-26 victory over the Eagles.
Only the third set proved close as eight different Lakers earned at least one kill, led by Molly Carges, who had seven kills.
Hodinger and Sarah Dickinson each had three kills, with Dickinson joining Maleigha Ellithorpe by recording three aces. Ellithorpe, with five assists, helped out Britton, who produced 11 assists. Nardella, Mapstone and Macheda had two kills apiece and Nardella served up five aces.
Having streaked to a 5-0 start, Cazenovia would seek a sixth straight win in next Tuesday’s match with Solvay before a big Thursday-night trip to Westhill.
