Connor Hill’s victory in the 300-meter dash helped propel the Skaneateles boys indoor track and field team to within a single point of top honors among small schools during Wednesday night’s season-opening Jack Morse Kickoff Meet at SRC Arena.
The Lakers’ total of 29 points was just behind Solvay’s 30 points, and put Skaneateles in a tie for sixth place overall with larger schools like Fayetteville-Manlius and Auburn. Liverpool, with 65 points, finished on top of the standings, with Cicero-North Syracuse (57 points) in second place.
During the 300 final, Hill would finish in 36.72 seconds, holding off Auburn’s Leon Atkins, who finished second in 36.84 seconds. Running in an earlier heat, Hill’s teammate, Cooper Watt, posted 39.43 seconds, gaining second place in the heat and fifth overall.
Skaneateles nearly went to the top in the 4×200 relay, thanks to the work of Hill, Griffin Lawson, Tommy Hagen and Nick Palmer, who posted 1:40.60 to win its heat, but finished second behind Nottingham, who got 1:40.26 in an earlier heat.
Hill also paired with Griffin Lawson, James Hackler and Kai Soderberg as Skaneateles made it to sixth place in the 4×400 relay in 3:55.06 as F-M (3:44.15) prevailed.
Skaneateles also had a say in the field events, where Eli Goodell, competing in the high jump, cleared 5 feet 6 inches, putting him in third place, as only Oswego’s Kyle Crossman (6 feet) and Mexico’s Justin Gardner (5’10”) fared better.
On his own, Hagen finished 10th (7.08 seconds) in the 55-meter dash, with Andrew Weiss going 17 feet 10 inches in the long jump to take 12th place. Zach Schneider had an 11th-place shot put toss of 37’9 ½” as Noah Cliff was 18th in the triple jump.
