Discover the origins of Kwanzaa at Community Folk Art Center. Escape to a Gingerbread Victorian Village at the Erie Canal Museum. Take home a drawing made by the play of shadows from the Shadows show at Delavan Art Gallery.

December’s Th3 prize drawing features a gift certificate of $50 toward the purchase of any item from the Delavan Art Gallery, 501 West Fayette St. Since opening in December 2003, Delavan has presented original fine art by area artists. You’ll find work that spans every medium and price range. Secretly, we all credit Bill Delavan and his staff with making the implementation of the original Th3 concept possible as one of the most respected and cherished members of the Syracuse arts community. Th3 is a coalition of 24 popular Syracuse visual arts venues that schedule free events during the evening of the third Thursday of every month, from 5 to 8 p.m. Maps, bus schedule and Th3 show listings at all Th3 locations. Special Th3 event. The landmark film documentary, “The Black Candle” by award-winning director M.K. Asante Jr. featuring narration by Maya Angelou. It is a triumphant film tracing the history of Kwanza, 7 p.m.

“Shadows” exhibit devoted entirely to shadows and featuring works by a host of noted Central New York artists Arlene Abend, Reginald Adams, Anahid Ajemian, Barbara Conte-Gaugel, Hilary Gifford, Barre Hunt, Lauren Ritchie, Jeffrey Schuessler, Andrew Schuster and Matthew Vural. The show creates an excellent playground for Bill Delavan’s lighting wizardry!
