Through a busy final week of the regular season, the Chittenango girls track and field team would beat three different OHSL Freedom division opponents, with Brittany Tirabassi a main reason for the sweep.
The Bears would roll through last Monday’s three-way meet against Mexico and Fulton, beating the Tigers 90-51 and the Red Raiders 87-54.
Here, Tirabassi had three individual titles. She took the 100-meter high hurdles in 18.0 seconds, claimed the 400-meter hurdles in 1:13.6 and cleared 7 feet 3 inches for first place in the pole vault.
Maize Zamlowski claimed first in the long jump (13 feet 10 1/2 inches) and triple jump (30 feet), while Alyssa Giarosso took the 200-meter dash in 28 seconds flat. Courtney Dyer claimed the 100-meter dash (13.0 seconds) and Rebecca
Sager needed 5:38.9 to win at 1,500 meters.
Giarosso and Dyer joined Theresa Parascandola and Meredith Furtado to take the 4×100 relay in 54.1 seconds, this after Kaitlin Alongi, Katie Foster, Hannah Murphy and Alyssa Levins-Freeman took the 4×800 relay in 11:13.5.
Meanwhile, the Chittenango boys track team lost to Fulton 81.5-59.5 and Mexico 76-65, despite Brian Bohne sweeping the sprints. He claimed the 100 (11.4 seconds) and 200 (23.7 seconds), then roared to victory in the 400-meter dash in 54.4 seconds. Bruce Gondeck clearing 6 feet in the high jump and taking the 110 high hurdles in 16.0 seconds.
Both teams competed again on Thursday, against East Syracuse-Minoa, and again earned a split — the girls Bears prevailing 74-67, the boys losing to the Spartans 80-61.
Tirabassi was everywhere, clearing 4 feet 9 inches in the high jump, improving to 7 feet 6 inches in the pole vault and also improving in the 100 hurdles (17.7 seconds) as she took the 400 hurdles (1:14.2) for a fourth title.
Dyer backed Tirabassi up by sweeping the 100 (12.9 seconds) and 200 (27.0 seconds) sprints and teaming with Giarosso, Parascandola and Furtado to improve in the 4×100 to 53.5 seconds. On her own, Giarosso won the 400 in 1:06.2. Alyssa Endres won the discus (74 feet 7 1/2 inches) as Zamlowski unleashed a top triple jump of 29 feet.
In the boys loss to ESM, Gondeck won three times, in the 110 high hurdles (16.2 seconds), high jump (5 feet 7 inches) and triple jump (38 feet 1 1/2 inches), also helping Bohne, Jason Given and Greg Foster prevail in the 4×400 in 3:47.2.
Bohne earned his own sweep in the sprints, running the 100 in 11.4 seconds, the 200 in 24.0 seconds and the 400 in 53 seconds flat for a third victory. Austin Nojaim was first in the 400 hurdles (1:04.4) as Justin Stevenson had a first-place long jump of 17 feet 3 inches.
