Carl J. Borning, age 78, of Manlius, passed away July 6, 2023, at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse after a brave battle with cancer. Born on Aug. 5, 1944, he was the son of the late Irvin Borning and Helen (Etner) Borning.
He graduated valedictorian in 1962 from Union Endicott High School, then completed his bachelor’s degree from the Cornell School of Arts and Sciences in 1966 followed by an MBA in 1968 from Cornell University.
Carl’s entrepreneurial career included founding and ownership of Proven Software, Inc. Before and after retirement, he served in local leadership positions for the Cazenovia Shakespeare Club, Syracuse Branch of English-Speaking Union, Cornell Alumni(ae) Club and the United Church of Fayetteville. His favorite past-times included enjoyment of gourmet food, classical music and traveling throughout all 50 United States and the world’s seven continents.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 58 years, Alice (Illg) Borning. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Wettig (Don); sister, Marcia (Bagg) Dyer; and brother, David Bagg. He lives on in his daughter, Trina Gribble (Rich); and six grandchildren, Caleb, Heidi, Myles “Jenna”, Abigail, Sydney, and Bentley.
Calling hours were held at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel and the service was held at the United Church of Fayetteville.
