ONONDAGA COUNTY – Once more, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls swim team has proven that no one has the depth or skill to keep up with it in the SCAC Metro division.
Up against Jamesville-DeWitt last Friday night at Cazenovia College, the Hornets found the Red Rams to be a worthy challenger, keeping the meet within range all the way, though F-M did prevail 95-85.
Jule Voelk led the Hornets, getting a top time of one minute, 18.71 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly before she took the 100 backstroke in 1:14.42 edging Avery Luttrell (1:15.42) and Samantha Roddy (1:17.76) in a 1-2-3 Hornets sweep.
Elise Wratney took the 200 freestyle in 2:04.01 and, in the 100 breaststroke, swam 1:09.32 to beat out the 1:12.28 from J-D standout Gwen Lister.
Roddy, for her part, claimed the 100 freestyle, her 1:02.05 just ahead of Grace Reyna’s 1:02.21, while Georgia Langan, in 25.91 seconds, won the 50 freestyle to beat Lister’s 26.24.
Getting a couple of its own individual titles, J-D had Kayla McQuaid earn 238.15 points in diving, with Zoe McCarthy second and Kaia Etuale third as Thearyn Wales went 5:47.78 to win the 500 freestyle.
Reyna, Roddy, Lily Fowler and Eliza Smith were first in the 200 medley relay in 2:16.11 to hold off J-D’s 2;16.58 as, in a tight 200 freestyle relay, Reyna, Fowler, Langan and Cecilia Cao needed 1:51.31 to edge the 1:51.72 from the Rams’ quartet of Lister, Wales, Josie Coyne and Lila Schroth.
Earlier in the week, Christian Brothers Academy met Cicero-North Syracuse at Nottingham High School and took a 93-83 defeat to the Northstar
Claire Krueger did win two individual races, going 1:00.08 to take the 100 freestyle and then earning victory in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.50.
Madison Cecilia was first in the 200 freestyle in 2:13.76, while Jenna Filhan claimed the 500 freestyle in 5:58.63. Anna Fuller needed 1:07.90 to edge C-NS’s Cassidy Payrot (1:08.66) in the 100 backstroke.
Filhan was second in the 200 IM in 2:29.88 as Kate Gucciardi won in 2:29.63 and also took the 100 butterfly in 1:08.83 to lead the Northstars.
