From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 1, the DeWitt Town Hall will be buzzing with many community events, including the October Earthfare, youth fishing day and the town-wide fall clean-up.
At the October Earthfare, attendees can learn a little about where our water comes from and why clean water is so important. A rain barrel display and literature about them, information about planting a rain garden, an interactive watershed model courtesy of the Central New York stormwater Coalition, information on white-tailed deer, literature about protecting yourself from ticks and many more information of topics will be available.
Town officials will also be taking names of residents for the fall 2017 street tree planting program. Under the Save the Rain grant, rain barrels will be available for residents who show proof of residency in Franklin Park or Park Hill areas. The annual Youth Fishing Day is a non-competitive fishing opportunity for children ages 16 and under of all levels of experience. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., walk-ins can start registering at 9 a.m., and at 9:15 a.m., fishing will begin.
Pre-registered children will receive a door prize and be entered in a raffle for additional prizes. Event takes place outdoors, rain or shine, and dressing for the weather is highly recommended. Refreshments will be provided. Limited space available and pre-registration is preferred.
Additionally, DeWitt Town Hall will be one of the locations for the town-wide fall cleanup. Volunteers may meet at Town Hall, Butternut Drive or Robbie T’s Pizza, North Street, Jamesville. Bags, stickers and safety vests will be supplied. Volunteers should bring work gloves and dress appropriately. Refreshments will be available at each location.
