Manlius — The Manlius Art Cinema, the only Central New York host of screenings of the Royal National Theatre of London, has announced its next production will be “Hamlet,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
“Hamlet” will be presented at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, with encore performances at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, and at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21.
Academy Award-nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC’s “Sherlock,” “The Imitation Game,” “Frankenstein” at the National Theatre) takes on the title role of Shakespeare’s great tragedy. Directed by Lyndsey Turner (“Posh,” “Chimerica”) and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, National Theatre Live will broadcast this production live to cinemas.
As a country arms itself for war, a family tears itself apart. Forced to avenge his father’s death but paralysed by the task ahead, Hamlet rages against the impossibility of his predicament, threatening both his sanity and the security of the state.
Special screenings for educational groups may be scheduled by emailing the theatre at [email protected].
Additionally, the Manlius Art Cinema has scheduled two encore performances of “The Audience,” starring Helen Mirren in her Tony Award-winning role as Queen Elizabeth. These performances will take place at 11a.m Sunday, Dec. 27, and at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31.
