Children ages 8 to 14 are invited to the Cazenovia Public Library for an exploration into the extraordinary world of glass art. This special installment of Art for Kids, starting at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, in the library community room, will feature a presentation by guest artist Stephen Brucker.
Brucker is a glass artist and sculptor based in Camillus. He earned his BFA in sculpture from SUNY Oswego and his MFA in sculpture from Rochester Institute of Technology. Brucker has studied under artists such as Kathy Budd, Eun-Suh Choi and Michael Rogers, and he has received numerous grants and scholarships.
During the program, participants will get a special glimpse into Brucker’s creative process. He will share video footage from his Nov. 12-13 workshop at the Corning Museum of Glass and provide “in-process” samples of his work to demonstrate the progression from ideation to realization. Following the presentation, kids will have the opportunity to make a festive glass ornament to take home. All materials will be provided. Class size is limited to ensure program quality. Call or stop by the library to reserve a spot.
Participants will qualify for the chance to win a beautiful art set donated by a good friend of the library. The kit contains 178 pieces, including colored markers, crayons, colored pencils, watercolor cakes, oil pastels, acrylic paint tubes and more — all arranged in a wooden case with adjustable trays.
All events at the Cazenovia Public Library are free and open to the public. For more information, call 655-9322 or visit cazenoviapubliclibrary.org.
