Baldwinsville boys lacrosse storms past Ballston Spa

Bees look to return to form that won state Class A title in 2022 and '23

BALDWINSVILLE – For the first time in three years, the Baldwinsville boys lacrosse team finds itself a hungry challenger. That might prove troubling for any of its opponents this spring.

The Bees won back-to-back state Class A championships in 2022 and 2023, only to get knocked off by Liverpool in last spring’s Section III final, something that has fueled B’ville’s players throughout its extensive off-season work.

Now it returned with five of its top six scorers back, along with plenty of other roster veterans that didn’t waste much time establishing themselves.

Facing Ballston Spa, from Section II, in last Saturday’s opener at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium the Bees controlled matters from start to finish on the way to a 17-7 victory.

Defensively, B’ville didn’t let the Scotties get on the board until the second quarter, by which point the hosts already had a sizable lead which kept on growing until it reached 15-4 by the end of the third period.

Brady Garcia’s five goals and one assist led the way, with Iggy LoMedico and Zach Bice also getting three-goal hat tricks as Dylan Garcia and Matt Niedzialek each scored twice.

Tieman Lynch piled up five assists to go with his lone goal, with Nick Ianno adding a goal and Alessio McGrane picking up two assists. Jake Seefeldt and John Martoccia combined to stop 12 of Ballston Spa’s 19 direct shots.

Another week of practice follows for the Bees before another Saturday game, this one at Section V’s Webster Thomas.
