Those two lopsided season-opening defeats seem a long way off for the Baldwinsville ice hockey team now.
The Bees made it two wins in a row on Dec. 19 when, hosting Ontario Bay at Lysander, it put together a 6-3 victory over the Storm which included a Rylan MacCollum hat trick.
Three times, MacCollum found the net, his point total equaled by Dan Hinman, who assisted twice and netted his own goal as Mitch Burlingame got credit for the other two goals.
Rocco Weaver matched Hinman getting two assists, with Joey Desantis earning one assist. Cameron Dalin, Conner Demott and Steve Wheeler had Ontario Bay’s goals, but Chase Brooks turned back everything else on his way to 20 saves.
Then, meeting Fairport on Dec. 21, B’ville cooled down again, taking a 5-2 defeat, though this game was tight and low-scoring most of the way.
Fairport only led 1-0 through two periods, Zach Bice tremendous in goal and on his way to 32 saves. But even though he got help from Alessio McGrane and Tom Rolfe netting third-period goals, Fairport pulled away with a four-spot of its own. MacCollum, Hinman and Tyler Machalek earmed assists.
This stretch of three games in four days concluded last Monday against Section IV’s Broome County at Lysander, and B’ville produced plenty of offense, but it wasn’t quite enough as it dropped a 6-5 decision to Section IV’s Broome County.
Here a wild first period saw the Bees edge into a 4-3 lead, only to have Broome County go in front in the second and hang on late, all this despite two goals apiece from Hinman and Joe Toland. MacCollum added a goal and assist, with Rocco Weaver getting two assists and Calvin Graham a single assist.
