ONONDAGA COUNTY – Twice in a span of 48 hours the Jamesville-DeWitt/Fayetteville-Manlius gymnastics teams took to the mats and emerged victorious on both occasions.
It started last Monday night with J-D/F-M taking on Central Square and, led by Mia Arvidson and Ailey Babakian, putting together a 138.15-121.5 victory over the Redhawks.
Arvidson won both the uneven bars with a 9.3 and the floor exercise with a 9.2 routine, adding a vault victory with 8.2 and 8.7 on balance beam for an all-around total of 35.4.
Only Babakian prevented Arvidson from sweeping the apparatus, going 9.1 on the beam to edge teammate Erin Buckles’ 9.0 as Babakian added a 9.15 uneven bars score and 8.1 vault to finish at 34.75 all-around, just ahead of Central Square’s Alexis Dashno at 34.7.
Buckles scored 9.0 on uneven bars, with Charlotte Pinsky netting an 8.9 on the floor and 8.5 on the beam.
Two nights later against Baldwinsville, J-D/F-M was pushed by the Bees but still picked up a 135.1-129.4 victory as, again, Arvidson had the best all-around total of 35.45.
From a 9.25 on the floor to 8.7 on uneven bars to 8.3 on the vault Arvison won all these events to go with an 8.8 on the beam for third place.
Babakian (33.7) edged Charlotte Pinsky (33.5) for second place all-around, with Babakian’s 9.3 beam routine beating out Pinsky’s 9.2. On the floor, Pinsky scored 9.0, with Babakian adding 8.1 on uneven bars.
East Syracuse Minoa/Liverpool had its own meet against Baldwinsville on Saturday night, ultimately taking a 136.15-125.85 defeat to the Bees.
Madeline Marquart tied B’ville’s Miley Basilio on the vault, each of them scoring 8.4. Julie Pease had an 8.5 on the beam to finish third and Breelyn Grevelding had an 8.0 on uneven bars.
