CENTRAL NEW YORK – Each of the area’s three girls swim teams were victorious in their respective meets held late last week.
It started with Christian Brothers Academy moving to 4-2 on the season with a 94-86 win over West Genesee last Thursday night at Le Moyne College.
Jenna Filhan led the Brothers, posting a top time of two minutes, 27.65 seconds in the 200-yard individual medley and later winning the 100 butterfly in 1:07.46.’
Claire Krueger won the 50 freestyle, edging WG’s Maddie Owczarzak, 27.76 seconds to 28.17, before posting the fastest time of 1:15.63 in the 100 breaststroke.
Anna Fuller swam the 100 backstroke in 1:06.88 to win that event, with Sofia Ciereck going 5:55.16 to edge teammate Zoe Thayer (5:55.49) in a close 500 freestyle.
Thayer went 2:15 flat in the 200 freestyle, just ahead of Ella Zaryski’s 2:16.79, though Zaryski would go on to win the 100 freestyle in 59.84 seconds, edging the Wildcats’ Allison Putnam (1:00.63) Filhan, Zaryski, Krueger and Josie Lachut went 1:52.33 for first place in the 200 freestyle relay.
That same night, Jamesville-DeWitt was successful in its meet against Oswego/Mexico, prevailing 98-88 to improve its overall record to 3-4.
Even with Oswego-Mexico star Alexa von Holtz on hand to win the 200 freestyle (1:57.37) and 50 freestyle (25.64 seconds) in quick times, the Red Rams kept pace through most of the meet.
Then, with the score tied 70-70 and three races left, Gwen Lister won the 100 backstroke in 1:05.69 and Margaret Lister, in 1:16.78, took the 100 breaststroke before Gwen Lister joined Thearyn Wales, Samantha Wheeler and Nora Barnello to win the closing 400 freestyle relay in 4:08.65.
Already, Gwen Lister had won the 200 IM in 2:20.59 before Kayla McQuaid, with 248.90 points, pulled away in the diving competition.
Olivia Ogata was second in both the 50 freestyle (28.02 seconds) and 100 butterfly (1:11.11) as Wheeler was second in the 100 freestyle (1:03.14) and Wales second in the 200 freestyle (2:10.57) and 500 freestyle (5:52.46).
Fayetteville-Manlius swam last Friday against Syracuse City, prevailing 89-82 as Elise Wratney went 1:05.07 in the 100 butterfly and swam the 100 backstroke in 1:08.85.
Georgia Langan, in 2:28.67, held off Cecilia Cao (2:30.30) in the 200 IM, but Cao, in 1:15.02, edged Langan (1:15.15) in the 100 breaststroke as Kate Millson (1:00.07) held off Samantha Roddy (1:01.07) in the 100 freestyle. Gabby Dardis claimed the 200 freestyle in 2:13.47.
