CENTRAL NEW YORK – A rare opportunity for revenge, or at least getting even, awaits the Fayetteville-Manlius girls cross country team when it takes on Cicero-North Syracuse Wednesday as part of a three-team meet at Baldwinsville.
It was on that same B’ville course that F-M finished second to C-NS in the Varsity Large School division of the Sept. 24 Baldwinsville Invitational. Now their rematch would determine regular-season SCAC Metro division honors.
Tuning up for that race, F-M swept Nottingham last Wednesday afternoon 15-50, with Maria Khalifeh, Ava Beecher and Charlotte Knutsen all finishing in 21:45 ahead of the group of Catherine Watlers, Izzie Sullivan, Hannah Kaercher and Camille Ryan in 21:46.
The boys Hornets won 20-41 over the Bulldogs, with Anthony Otis, in 16:31, edging Nolan McGinn (16:32) for the top spot ahead of Nottingham star Henry Zhe-Heimerman, who was third in 16:48.
Ben Perry got to fourth place in 17:03, with another Hornets pack led by Kyler Patrick in sixth place as his 18:37 edge William Ditre (18:38), with Mason Weires (19:14) and David George (19:16) in the next two spots.
Jamesville-DeWitt saw its boys team split a three-team meet, defeating Syracuse East 16-43, but falling 15-50 to Auburn as Chris Donaghue had a time of 20:16 and Peter Drew finished in 20:20.
As that went on, the J-D girls took a 19-36 loss to Auburn, who had a top-three sweep, led by Kyleen Brady’s 20:26. Megan O’Malley was fourth for the Rams in 24:43 as Megan Reddy posted 25:48 and Norah Kirch finished in exactly 26 minutes.
J-D was then part of last Saturday’s McQuaid Invitational in Rochester, where in the boys Varsity AA Medium division Connor Clarkson finished fourth in 16:03 flat. Hudson Groat was 42nd in 17:04.5 as, on the girls side, O’Malley (21:24.7) and Reddy (21:45.8) had the best efforts.
East Syracuse Minoa was at McQuaid, too, taking part in the Varsity AAA races. John Courcy had the best boys time of 17:47 flat as Brandon Cerlanek finished in 18:08, while Ainsley McKenna was 53rd in the girls race in 21:30.3
