CENTRAL NEW YORK – Once the weather warmed up and dried up, the Jordan-Elbridge softball team put its undefeated mark on the line against Christian Brothers Academy and took it first loss, 4-3, to the Brothers.
Alexis DelFavero, with two hits and a run scored, paced a modest Eagles attack. Ava Hildebrant and Abby Ahern also scored runs as CBA got two hits apiece from Mackenzie Witz and Allison Boule.
J-E rebounded Saturday with a 20-1 win over Homer that included a nine-run third inning and seven-run fourth inning. Ahern and Erin LaVancha both had four RBIs, with DelFavero driving in three runs as Cameron Fraher and Isabella Jay had two RBIs apiece.
Westhill was back in action Thursday and ripped past Homer 18-3, led by Alexa Korrie, who doubled twice and drove in four runs. Sarah Balduzzi had three RBIs and scored three runs as Hannah Schmitz, Kalista Czaplicki and Nicoletta Scrimale earned two RBIs apiece.
Solvay had plenty of excitement on Friday in the course of beating Cortland 13-12, a game remarkable not just for the score but the way it got there.
The Bearcats trailed the Purple Tigers 4-2 when it struck for three runs in the top of the sixth to go in front. And though Cortland reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth, Solvay, now down 9-5, erupted for eight runs in the top of the seventh.
And every one was needed, since the Purple Tigers moved within one in the bottom of the seventh before Solvay was able to get the final out, having seen Susie Overend go three-for-five with three RBIs as Natalie Orr drove in a pair of runs with her three hits.
West Genesee resumed action on Friday, taking a 2-0 defeat to reigning sectional Class A champion Auburn. Single runs in the fourth and sixth inning overcame a fine pitching effort by the Wildcats’ Maria Brandt, who only allowed six hits. Alanna Bowman had two of her team’s three hits.
Skaneateles took a 16-4 defeat to Altmar-Parish-Williamstown but then, on Saturday, earned its first win of the season the Lakers pounding Utica Proctor 14-0 by scoring runs in each of the first six innings.
Bishop Ludden lost, 20-5, to Cato-Meridian last Thursday afternoon despite Kaitlyn Kibling and Sophia Chemotti each getting an RBI and scoring twice. A 12-5 loss to Phoenix followed on Saturday afternoon.
