ONONDAGA COUNTY – Just two days after a heavy snowstorm, it had melted enough for area high school girls golf teams to start their cycle of league matches.
And a big win was attained right away by Westhill when it took on traditional OHSL power Christian Brothers Academy and pulled out a 213-214 decision over the Brothers.
Over nine holes at Camillus Golf Club, Catherine Dadey shot a 48, two ahead of CBA’s Grace Catalano, important in a match that was so close.
Hannah Johnston and Charlotte Roth both finished with 55s, while Maya Wolden, with a 56, and Bella Jones, with a 59, made sure the Warriors held on.
Westhill made it back-to-back wins on Friday by roaring past Bishop Grimes 198-255. Dadey again led the way, shooting a 46, while Jones and Johnston had matching totals of 50 and Roth contributed a 52.
West Genesee would not have a match outside its home course at Westvale until May. Having lost 226-244 to Liverpool in its April 14 opener, the Wildcats would take a 163-173 defeat to Baldwinsville a week later.
Sophia Simiele shot a 37 to match the low round from the Bees’ Gloria Metallo. Olivia Snyder and Madalyn Lauricella each posted 45 as Gianna Corbin finished with a 46.
In boys golf, Marcellus got underway last Friday and rolled to a 213-310 victory over Bishop Grimes. John White shot a 37, matched by the Cobras’ Vinny Falgiatano, with Will Glass earning a 41 and Eliot Austin adding a 43.
