SYRACUSE – Both in the doubles and singles divisions, Baldwinsville girls tennis players were quite active in the Section III Division I tournaments played at Syracuse University’s Skytop Courts.
The Bees’ best showing came from the doubles team of Reagan Doan and Julia Quinn, who made a dramatic run to the semifinals and, by doing so, advanced to next week’s sectional state qualifier at Drumlins.
It took tie-breakers in the second and third sets for Doan and Quinn to rally past West Genesee’s Angelina Allen and Margaret Mello 3-6, 7-6, 7-6.
Yet another comeback took place in the quarterfinals, with Doan and Quinn dropping a 6-1 first set to Fayetteville-Manlius’ Natalie Hugo and Katya Quinn and then, two games from defeat, rallying to take the second set 7-5 and then recording a 6-0 shutout.
All of this led to a semifinal with WG’s top-seeded duo of Angelina Llanos and Katie Viau, where Doan and Quinn lost, 6-1, 6-0, to the Wildcats’ pair that would eventually beat Liverpool’s Diana Kozenyatko and Gabby Underwood in straight sets for the title.
Of the Bees’ three singles players, only Hannah Gould made it to the quarterfinals.
In the round of 16, Gould beat F-M’s Trisha Adavikolanu 6-3, 7-5, only to run into Liverpool’s Angelica Underwood in the next round and falling 6-0, 6-4.
As for Ayla Kalfass, she got to a first-set tie-breaker with Christian Brothers Academy’s Julia DelPino, but still lost 7-6, 6-1, while Bella Nazdan was unable to earn a game in a 6-0, 6-0 loss to F-M standout Anna Manta.
