ONONDAGA COUNTY – Twice in as many Tuesday nights, the Fayetteville-Manlius boys lacrosse team would make its way to Baldwinsville, knowing that winning one of these games would mean the outright Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division regular-season championship.
The Hornets didn’t get there undefeated, falling 11-3 last Friday to Jamesville-DeWitt, but also in part due to the effort Cicero-North Syracuse pup in its third encounter with F-M last Tuesday night.
Ultimately, the Hornets pulled it out, 12-10, but not before the Northstars, having learned plenty from the 16-10 and 14-6 defeats it took to F-M earlier in the month, battled its way to a 6-3 halftime advantage with strong play on both ends of the field.
Offensively, it was Mason Ciciarelli that proved tough to stop, Ciciarelli ultimately finishing with seven of C-NS’s 10 goals as Mason Blakeman scored twice, Eljiah Martin added a goal and Anthony Cimino earned three assists.
F-M would rally behind a far deeper attack, overcoming a brilliant effort in goal by Giovanni Heater, who recorded 19 saves.
Pratt Reynolds led the Hornets with three goals, with Caden Yancey, Ty Teelin and Connor Aspinall earning two goals apiece. Isaac Frechette added three assists as Anthony DaRin got one goal and one assist. John Angelicola and T.J. Conley also found the net.
This led to the defeat with J-D, which takes pressure off F-M having to try to complete a perfect season and gives it plenty of motivation heading toward the B’ville rematch.
Christian Brothers Academy is also facing F-M this Saturday at Alibrandi Stadium, yet another instance of the Brothers testing itself against a large-school powerhouse.
Having beat West Genesee on May 15, the Brothers could not pull off the same feat against that same Baldwinsville team last Monday, taking a 16-7 loss to the Bees.
B’ville jumped out 4-0 and the Brothers spent the rest of the game in catch-up mode, though Andrew Kohlbrenner did pick up three goals and one assist.
Dan Ludington scored twice, with Chris Adornato and John Greenwood getting the other goals. Dan Anderson added an assist as Keegan Lynch (five goals) and Colin Socker (three goals) paced the Bees.
CBA roared back to form by routing Chittenango 18-4 on Thursday night, building a 16-2 advantage through three periods led by Joe Papa, who amassed five goal and three assists.
Bracton Bowler also stepped up, with three goals and one assist. Anderson had two assists as he, along with Adornato, Seamus Nicholson and Declan Landers, got two goals apiece. Xie Shahin had his first goal of the season, with Seamus Nicholson also converting.
Then, on Saturday afternoon, CBA made it back-to-back wins, handling New Hartford 11-5 with Landers going to the forefront, scoring four times as Anderson added three goals.
Adornato, with two goals and one assist, was followed by Papa and Ludington each getting one goal and one assist as Kohlbrenner also found the net.
