SKANEATELES – For the second time this spring, Skaneateles girls swimmer Hana Spaulding put together a string of record-breaking performances as her team roared to victory.
The Lakers handled Syracuse City 105-70 Tuesday night as Spaulding, who missed the team’s meet against New Hartford the week before, tore to a time of 24.06 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, a new school mark.
Later, in the 100 butterfly, Spaulding again set a school standard, going 58.38 seconds, and in the 200 freestyle relay Spaulding, paired with Grace King, Ashley Drotar and Elizabeth Springer, broke the school mark by going 1:42.58.
Drotar, second to Spaulding in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.56, was victorious in the 200 individual medley, her 2:29.45 edging Lili Winkelman’s 2:30 flat as Springer went 2:37.65.
Springer went 57.97 seconds in the 100 freestyle to beat King (58.80), who also was second in the 50 freestyle, while Ariana Matthews roared to victory in the 500 frestyle in 5:40.13.
Winkelman was victorious in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.24 and helped King, Spaulding and Drotar get a time of 1:57.77 in the 200 medley relay. Carlee Pitman, with 185.65 points, held off Lexi Cottrill (175.70) in diving as Marcella Buchholz was second in the 100 backstroke in 1:16.95 and Caitlin Comer was second in the 500 freestyle.
Skaneateles then defeated Baldwinsville 101-70 on Thursday night, with Spaulding turning to two other events where, again, she posted some of the quickest times of the Section III season.
In the 200 freestyle, Spaulding went 1:56.21, followed by a 100 freestyle where she tore to a time of 52.94 seconds ahead of Drotar’s 56.26. She also helped Comer, Musso and Matthews win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.91.
King went 1:07.42 to top Musso (1;09.59) in the 100 butterfly and swam the 100 backstroke in 1:08.89. Matthews was first in the 200 IM in 2:26.09 to Winkelman’s 2:29.98 before she held off Comer, 1:17.81 to 1:19.47, in the 100 breaststroke.
Drotar needed 25.76 seconds to win the 50 freestyle after she paired with Springer, Winkelman and King to go 2:01.06 in the 200 medley relay. Pitman, with 194.30 points, held off Cottrill (183.55) in diving as Olivia Springer swam the 500 freestyle in 6:27.54.
West Genesee was upended 99-82 by Cicero-North Syracuse on Tuesday in a meet where the Northstars built an overwhelming advantage on the Wildcats based on its depth.
Still, Anna Ivery swept to victories in the sprints for WG, going 26.36 seconds to control the 50 freestyle and, in the 100 freestyle, easing to first place in 1:00.24.
Adriana Gill was victorious in the 100 backstroke in 1:15.15 as Ellie Straub was second in 1:18.92, with Mary Lyons beating the field in the 100 breaststroke in 1:29.27.
Allison Putnam took second in both the 200 freestyle (2:13.87) and 500 freestyle (6:05.25) as Kelsie Bottari finished in the diving competition with 177.22 points, edging Juila Turton (176.18) in third place
Then, at Oswego Thursday night, WG dropped an 88-86 decision to the Buccaneers, who clinched the meet with two races to go.
Ivery still was first in the 100 backstroke in 1:08.88 after Bottari earned 195.57 points to claim the diving title. Gill, Lyons, Katie Kuppinger and Colleen McInerney paired up to win the 200 freestyle relay in 2:04.69.
