Though again composed of a small roster, the Baldwinsville boys swim team made up for that situation with a strong competitive spirit during its 2011 season.
Ultimately, the Bees had seven meets and won four of them, clinching a winning mark when it pulled out several close races, along with a trio of timely sweeps, in last Wednesday’s season finale, a 57-37 victory over the West Genesee Wildcats.
In the first tight contest, the 200-yard freestyle, Harrison Meyers gave B’ville a victory in two minutes, 20.30 seconds, just ahead of the 2:21.88 from WG’s Alex Shuron.
The 50 freestyle saw Mikey White, in 23.84 seconds, hold off the 23.92 from the Wildcats’ Keegan Scharoun, and in the 100 breaststroke it was Keenan Smith winning in 1:12.92 to edge WG’s Matt Barrington, who had 1:13.05.
Three other times, B’ville had 1-2 finishes in races, starting when Matthew Lange went 2:01.27 to prevail in the 200 freestyle and Aidan Solomon was second in 2:02.91.
White’s 100 freestyle victory in 54.07 seconds was fortified by Lange finishing second in 54.99, and right after this Tristan Miranda pulled away in the 500 freestyle in 5:18.16 to the 5:51.16 from Meyers in the runner-up spot. Solomon was second in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.19, with Brennan Gruppe third in the 100 butterfly.
To close out the meet, Miranda, Meyers, Lange and White paired up to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:39.89. Miranda, Meyers, Ryan Wilson and Webster were second in the 200 medley relay in 1:56.11 as White, Lange, Wilson and Webster were second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.36.
