Toward the end of their respective regular-season efforts, the indoor track and field teams from East Syracuse Minoa and Christian Brothers Academy both traveled to Utica College.
Taking part in the sixth Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association meet of the winter, the boys Spartans finished fourth out of 23 teams with 56 points as the girls were 10th with 20 points.
Nick Berg won for the ESM boys in the 1,000-meter run, his time of two minutes, 39.34 seconds beating out CBA’s Joel Gaffney, who finished second in 2:43.41.
Berg also got second place in the 1,600-meter run in 4:35.19, just behind Central Valley Academy’s Nolan Stone (4:34.93), with CBA’s Zach Medicis getting third place in 4:36.44.
Rocky El was victorious for the Spartans in the triple jump, going 42 feet 5 ½ inches, well clear of Baldwinsville’s Owen Weaver (40’9 ¼”) in second place.
Michael Parks was second in the high jump by clearing 5’8”, got second place (8.16 seconds) to Utica Proctor’s Saleh Eltayeb (7.86) in the 55-meter hurdles, with Rocky El third in 8.31 seconds.
Spencer Carnival, Scofield Sol, Jordan Sanson and Dan Tovar were third in the 4×400 relay in 3:59.56. Bennett Ferrari took ninth place in the pole vault and Logan Cowell was 10th in the shot put, with Kevin Hasty 11th in the weight throw.
ESM’s girls had Rhiannon Butchko prevail in the high jump, one of three girls to clear 4’10”, but doing so with fewer misses than Baldwinsville’s Karen Ekure and New Hartford’s Bianca Durso.
Rachael Ladd was second in the 3,000-meter run in 11:11.35 behind Clinton’s Taylor Harvey (11:03.21). Kaleigh Maloof finished ninth in the 55 hurdles.
CBA’s Michael McMahon went 10:10.78 at 3,200 meters to finish third. The Brothers’ Isabella Cannizzo was fourth in the girls 1,500-meter run in 5:12.28, four spots ahead of Ladd in eighth place. ESM also was eighth in the 4×200 relay.
