Things remained busy for the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool girls swim teams as both of them began their October slates.
In the Northstars’ case, that meant traveling to Auburn last Wednesday night and staying on level terms with the Maroons before taking over in the last three races to earn a 93-77 victory.
They were tied, 62-62, with three races left. Then, in the 100-yard backstroke, C-NS’s Grace Devinney, in one minute, 10.56 seconds, led a 1-2-3 sweep, just ahead of Jenna Lenweaver (1:11.25) and Alexa Kulakowski (1:12.59).
Cassidy Svoboda followed up with a victory in the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.25, with Erika Purdy second in 1:23.83. That clinched the team win, though its foundation was established earlier in the meet.
Brittany Wood won the 200 individual medley in 2:31.55, also taking second in the 100 butterfly in 1:12.94 and pairing with Devinney, Bryn Myers and Alayna Harbaugh to win the 200 medley relay in 2:06.45.
Myers, in 26.42 seconds, got second place in the 50 freestyle and was runner-up in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.02. Kate Gucciardi went 2:12.91 in the 200 freestyle and 6:09.23 in the 500 freestyle, getting second place in both races.
Hosting West Genesee Friday at Le Moyne College, C-NS made it back-to-back victories, improving its overall record to 5-2-1 by defeating the Wildcats 99-76.
Gucciardi won twice, going 2:10.48 in the 200 freestyle and, in the 100 freestyle, leading a 1-2-3 Northstars sweep as she finished in 58.79 seconds, just ahead of Myers (58.81) and Harbaugh (59.10).
Wood also got two titles, claiming the 200 IM in 2:32.94 over Devinney (2:36.66) and the 100 butterfly in 1:10.09. Myers went 25.83 seconds to beat Harbaugh (26.42) in the 50 freestyle after they both helped Wood and Kulakowski win the 200 medley relay in 2:02.09.
Thorne earned 280.90 points in diving, with Carroll getting 233.70 points. Svoboda swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.75 and helped Gucciardi, Myers and Harbaugh win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:49.02.
Meanwhile, in its only meet last week, Liverpool met Jamesville-DeWitt last Wednesday night at its temporary home pool at Fulton’s Granby Elementary School, only gaining an individual title in the diving competition on the way to a 101-83 defeat to the Red Rams.
Sophia Recuparo kept the Warriors from getting shut out in individual events. Earning 202.65 points on the diving board, Recuparo just beat out the 197.35 points from J-D’s Abby McGuire as Macy Moore was third with 188.35 points.
Jessica Testone, in 27.48 seconds, was just behind the Rams’ Julia Antoine (27.27) in the 50 freestyle and also was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:08.09.
Delaney Gellert went 2:19.82 in the 200 IM to trail J-D’s Amelia Hesler (2:16.87) before swimming the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.76, close behind the Rams’ Sofia Bebla (1:11.42).
Kaitlyn Thompson had runner-up finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:15.29) and 100 freestyle (1:00.72). Thompson, Gellert, Testone and Sophia Russo went 1:49.98 in the 200 freestyle relay, whileTestone, Delaney Gellert, Emerson Gellert and Megan Winn had a time of 2:02.26 in the 200 medley relay.
Liverpool would go to Oswego Tuesday night as C-NS competes Thursday night at New Hartford.
