Unable to meet head-to-head last Monday due to field conditions, the Cazenovia and Chittenango baseball teams would have to wait until May 4 for that neighborhood clash.
But games did resume last Tuesday afternoon when the Bears hosted perennial power Westhill and took a 10-4 defeat to the Warriors.
Three-run rallies in the first and fifth nnings put Westhill out in front 6-0 before Chittenango got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, as the hosts added two runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh during a futile comeback effort.
Seth Kimball finished with a pair of hits as he and Sean Rooney both drove in runs. Tommy McIntosh and Carlos Torres scored runs.
Nick Callahan took the loss for the Bears, lasting four innings before Rooney relieved him. Nick Bistrovich (three RBIs) and Ryan Bennett (three hits, three runs scored, two RBIs) paced the Warriors.
A day later, it was Cazenovia taking on Phoenix, its last game before its spring-break trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and though it was a home game, it was moved to Phoenix because of field conditions.
Wherever it was held, the Lakers still flourished as it bashed the Firebirds 14-1 in five innings, Aidan Berson allowing just five hits as he struck out four Firebirds hitters. He also scored three runs, matching Dan Hammond and Jack Byrnes.
Five-run rallies in the first and third innings, with a three-run second inning in between, did most of the damage. Dylan McCrink and Drew Johnson had three RBIs apiece, with Byrnes and Sean Smithers each getting a pair of hits. Ryan Wozniak, Keegan Bailey and Tripp Clarke joined Byrnes and Smithers with one RBI apiece.
Chittenango met with more frustration in Thursday’s 1-0 loss to Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, this despite a tremendous pitching performance by Maddox Garvey.
All that Garvey did was limit the Rebels to three hits, striking out four, and blanking APW following a first-inning run driven in by Tim Trumble.
Yet that run held up because the Bears only managed two hits against Trumble, one each by Noah Schnauffer and Aiden Cavotta, as Trumble earned nine strikeouts in his complete-game effort.
