Before and after it snared the top spot at New Hartford’s Empire Invitational on Sept. 29, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls swim team earned a pair of important league wins.
None was as crucial as last Tuesday’s battle with West Genesee. First place in the CNY Counties League was at stake, and the undefeated Hornets handed the Wildcats its first loss of the season by a 94-80 margin.
As it had done before, F-M piled up all the points it needed with a handful of races left, starting with a 1-2-3 sweep of the 200-yard freestyle where Emma Luttrell won in two minutes, 4.71 seconds, followed by Hannah Kellogg (2:05.40) and Meghan Seidberg (2:10.90).

Christian Brothers Academy took a 100-86 defeat to Liverpool last Tuesday despite many individual titles and wins in the 200 medley relay in 1:59.52 and 200 freestyle relay in 1:45.02.
Lauren Kelly was part of both winning relays and, on her own, roared to first in the 200 IM in 2:20.62 before getting first place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.50, one of her best times of the fall.
