No one could get close to the Westhill girls track and field team during Wednesday’s Onondaga High School League Liberty National division championship meet.
The Warriors earned 197 points to pull clear of six challengers that included host Marcellus, who with 66 points tied for fourth place just behind Solvay, who rose to third place with 68 points.
Liz Kessler won the 1,500-meter run in 5:06.38, chased by Haylei Coolican (5:08.36) in third place. Kessler was second (2:32.96) and Coolican third (2:36.06) in the 800-meter run. Alyssa Holstein won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.46 seconds, with Lauren Marshall fourth.
In a 1-2 Warriors sweep of the pole vault, Ashley Heffernan cleared 9 feet 6 inches to win, with Noelle Coolican second by topping 9 feet as Heffernan went on to win the long jump with a top leap of 15’7 ¼”.
Caitlyn McIntyre, Ashley Bolesh, Angie Mesa-Espinosa and Ciarra Rudnick posted 52.96 seconds to win the 4×100 relay as Solvay had Isis Mitchell, Serenity Thomas, Phoebe Guadagnolo and Genea Kadlabowski get second place in 54.92 seconds.
McIntyre got to second place in the 100-meter dash in 13.99 seconds, while Rudnick (14.06) was fourth. Bolesh went 1:02.45 to finish second in the 400-meter dash as Kennedy Rose was fourth. Alaina Kenny was second in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8:43.64.
Mesa-Espinosa went 28.34 seconds in the 200-meter dash to get second place, with Rudnick fourth. Molly Bobbett finished fourth in the 400 hurdles, but helped Bolesh, Mesa-Espinosa and Megan O’Reilly win the 4×400 relay in 4:21.30.
Lennah Abraham won the discus, throwing it 84’4” as Marshall was second in the triple jump with 30’1 ½” and Quinn Mannion was fifth, with Bolesh sixth in the long jump. Westhill also finished second in the 4×800 relay in 10:37.92, with Solvay third in 11:15.85.
Marcellus was best in field events, including Sophia Shaw clearing 4’8” to win the high jump with fewer misses than Westhill’s Abby Feyerabend or Solvay’s Kyra Crossett. O’Reilly finished sixth. Julianna Szczech topped 8 feet for third place in the pole vault.
Macie Szalach went 1:13.41 for second place in the 400 hurdles, with Meaghan Strempel second in the 3,000-meter run in 11:20.05 as Westhill’s Katherine Evans (11:34.59) was third and Kylie Nowicki sixth.
Amy Francesconi get third place in the pentathlon with 1,737 points, ahead of Solvay’s Rhiannon Ackerman (fourth) and Westhill’s Mackenzie Powers (fifth). Alaura Cushman was third in the 400 sprint in 1:04.79.
Olivia Bird was fourth and Morgan Gould fifth in the 1,500 as Violet Mancavage got fifth place in the 800 and helped the Mustangs take third place (4:30.84) in the 4×400. Emma Stuart was fourth in the discus.
Solvay’s Ashley Bosco won again in the shot put, throwing it 37’5 ½” as she was chased by Abraham (30’5 ½”) and Kayla Helfeld (29’11 3/4”), who were third and fourth, respectively, as the Mustangs’ Hanna Dellostritto was fifth and Sabrina Garnett was sixth.
Kyra Crossett, in 18.10 seconds, took third place in the 100 hurdles and was third in the high jump , while Thomas was sixth as Mitchell got fifth place in the 100 sprint. Erica Bagozzi cleared 7’6’ for fourth place in the pole vault.
Bosco threw the discus 73’9 ½” to take third place. Thomas improved to third place in the 400 hurdles in 1:14.60, with Crossett fifth. Carly Devereaux finished fifth in the steeplechase as he Bearcats were sixth in the 4×400.
Jordan-Elbridge had 41 points to finish fifth out of seven teams in the OHSL Liberty American division meet, which included Meagan Jackson’s second-place finish in the pentathlon with 1,728 points.
The Eagles won the 4×800 as Theresa Dristle, Madison Daly, Hannah Fichter and Kyler Langhorn finished in 10:47.89, the only time under the 11-minute mark.
Langhorn took third in the 200 in 28.69 seconds, with Dristle fifth in the 3,000 and Fichter fifth in the steeplechase. J-E took fifth place in the 4×400. Ashlee Eaton had a third-place long jump of 14’8 ¾”, with Langhorn fourth (31’2 ¼”) in the triple jump.
Marcellus had taken part in the May 12 Oneida Invitational, where it finished fifth out of 14 teams with 45 points. That included a 1-2 sweep in the pole vault, where Szczech won by clearing 7’6” with fewer misses than teammate Courtney Otis.
Meaghan Strempel took third place in the 3,000 in 11:23.95. Macie Szalach went 1:12.73 to finish third in the 400 hurdles, Francesconi earned 1,520 points in the pentathlon and finished fourth.
Bishop Ludden took part in last Monday’s OHSL Patriot division meet at Tully, where the Sarah Thompson was second in the pole vault, clearing 8 feet, behind only the 10’6” from Tully’s Mackenzie Delles. Also, Zoe Fortin was second in the triple jump with 32’11 ¼”behind Bishop Grimes’ Wenjing Chen (34’ ¾”).
